“¡Ya nos tienen todos revueltos!” La enseñanza de la lengua indígena en una primaria mexicana

In this article we describe how a Mexican primary school has undertaken the task of teaching an indigenous language, as a result of the reform of the curriculum, which formally included indigenous language as a class. The school recently joined the full-time schools program and, to extend their opening hours, organized a workshop of indigenous language. We examine the change of direction of language policies, and the actions instrumented by the educational authorities to put into effect the linguistic rights of native populations. The study approach was focused ethnography, we observed 18 sessions; information through a checklist and a brief questionnaire applied to students was also gathered. Our results show the difficulties the school faces to meet the required educational goals. On the one hand, the subject of an indigenous language is not parallel to the national curriculum and only takes place during the sessions of the extended hours once or twice per week. On the other hand, for causes beyond the institution, there are difficulties in maintaining the same teacher as head of the indigenous language workshop and the linguistic variety taught is not the same all the time.En este artículo describimos cómo una escuela primaria mexicana ha emprendido la tarea de la enseñanza de lengua indígena, a raíz de la reforma del currículo que incluyó formalmente la asignatura de lengua indígena. El plantel escolar donde se observaron las clases, recientemente se incorporó al programa de escuelas de tiempo completo, y al extender su horario de atención, organizó un taller de lengua indígena. Examinamos el cambio de dirección de las políticas lingüísticas y de las acciones instrumentadas por las autoridades educativas para hacer efectivos los derechos lingüísticos de las poblaciones originarias. El estudio se abordó desde la etnografía enfocada y se observaron 18 sesiones; además, se recabó información a través de una lista de cotejo y un breve cuestionario aplicado a los alumnos. Nuestros resultados muestran las dificultades que enfrenta la escuela para cumplir las metas educativas exigidas. Por un lado, la asignatura de lengua indígena no se ofrece paralela al currículo nacional y sólo se trabaja durante las sesiones del horario extendido una o dos veces por semana. Por otro lado, es enseñada como segunda lengua, hay rotación de los docentes y no siempre enseñan la misma variante lingüística
